Paws on Pages Read-a-thon

What is the POP Read-a-Thon?  When is it happening?
Monday, March 2-Friday, March 13, ParentCrew will be celebrating reading while fundraising during the Paws on Pages (POP) Read-a-Thon.  All money raised during this event will benefit ParentCrew, a proud supporter of TAS.

How does this help raise money for ParentCrew?
Students will pledge to read (or, for younger students, be read to) for at least thirty minutes a day for ten days.  They will set up online pages using the unique code given to each family closer to the event.  This online student page may be shared on all social media as well as email.  You may even print paper copies from the site.  Online donations are very easy to make, but we will also accept cash and checks.  Leave these in the front office or mail them to ParentCrew, c/o The Anthony School, 7700 Ohio Street, Little Rock, AR 72227.  Make sure cash or check donations are clearly marked for the “ParentCrew POP Donation” with you child’s name as well.  Students who raise the most money and/or students who read the most minutes will receive some impressive prizes at the end of the event.

How do students record the minutes they read?
Students and/or parents can easily log daily reading times, and this is strongly encouraged.  This is also explained on the website that you will access using a handout you will receive closer to the event.  Please keep a list of all book/other materials read during the POP Read-a-Thon.  The winning readers may need to provide this list to POP coordinators.

How will the POP Read-a-Thon encourage my child to read?
An online daily report of reading logs/new sponsors will be viewed by POP coordinators.  Using this information, first through eighth graders will receive daily POP Dollars for reading/logging their thirty minutes and getting sponsors, among other things.  These POP Dollars can be spent at the POP Store, which will be set up for students to shop at certain times.  They can buy prizes or trade their bucks for special privileges.  All items purchased at the POP Store will be placed in a bag and sealed.  Students are expected to keep their items in the bags until they get home to prevent classroom distractions.

The POP Store would be overwhelming for preschool students, so they will be rewarded with a prize at the end of the event.  They will also get extra visits from volunteer readers during the event.  Younger grades will be visited by members of the community, older TAS students, and members of ParentCrew (often in costume) who will read to them throughout the two week event.

What else do I need to know?
To kick off the POP Read-a-Thon, kindergarten through eighth grade students will participate in a reading pep rally on Monday, March 2, featuring popular book characters and a skit performed by middle school drama students.

Students in all grades are encouraged to dress up as their favorite book character on that Monday, March 2.  No masks, make-up, or accessories, please.

How can I stay informed during the POP Read-a-Thon?
Please check your e-mail, Instagram, ParentCrew and TAS Facebook pages, and/or the POP Read-a-Thon home page (listed below) for important announcements during the event.

The Paws on the Pages team has worked hard to make this event fun and fair for every student at our school!  We are so excited that we can blend this necessary fundraiser with a cause very dear to all of our hearts:  literacy.  If you have any questions, would like to sponsor the event, or would like to help in some way, please contact Natalie Darnell.

What are some ways I can help?

  • Volunteer to read to a class or classes or suggest a reader
Last year, we had parents, grandparents, and members of our community come and read to all ages.  Some wore costumes and brought props, and some did not.  The kids enjoyed ALL of them! If you have a connection or know a community member who might be a good reader, let us know!  Last year, we had the fire department, the police department, a local meteorologist, a local radio host, and a business owner come and read, another others.
  • Donate a gift card
We could use some gift cards (in ALL amounts) for POP Shop gifts as well as prizes for the end of the event.  Apple, Amazon, Play Station, and Target are all great ideas.  Think about what children in our school would enjoy!
  • Sponsor the event
Not only would your business be directly supporting ParentCrew and The Anthony School, but your name would be see tens of thousands of times on the website and displayed throughout the school as a sponsor of literacy at TAS.

Thank you so much for your support!
