Welcome to The Anthony School’s second annual STEAM event, STEAMapalooza!
What is STEAM?
STEAM stands for Science, Technology, Engineering, the Arts, and Mathematics. It is an “integrated approach to learning which requires an intentional connection between standards, assessments, and lesson design/implementation” (http://educationcloset.com).
How is STEAM taught at The Anthony School (TAS)?
The Anthony School’s framework is engaging, hands-on, reality-based, and almost always starts with a question. Students learn to investigate, organize, gather facts/clues, hypothesize, solve problems, build, and create. Our students are learning the STEAM framework all day, but they also go to a class that specifically focuses on STEAM. This class is taught by Shana Nolen and Amanda Taylor. In this class, students focus on solving a particular problem or answering a question. Students may build marble runs, create tin foil ships, or fly paper airplanes to solve problems and answer questions. As you might guess, TAS students absolutely love this class.
So what, exactly, is STEAMapalooza?
On April 6, 2018 we celebrated STEAM by bringing together around thirty central Arkansas community members and professionals who will demonstrate and share their individual areas of STEAM expertise, as well as engage the students in hands-on activities. Students will rotate through different areas so they are able to participate in as many of these demonstrations and lessons as possible.
