The Anthony School Early Childhood Program includes three-year-olds and Pre-K students. Both full-day and half-day programs are offered; three-year-olds also have the option of attending on Tuesday/Thursday, Monday/Wednesday/Friday, or Monday through Friday.
The Early Childhood curriculum and learning centers are planned not only to be developmentally appropriate, but also to allow each child to have opportunities to learn through a variety of experiences. Classrooms and schedules are designed to include opportunities for students to participate in group activities and lessons, as well as to make choices for individual learning or free time. Frequent student interaction allows development of appropriate social behavior as stated in the school's philosophy, and small classes accommodate group or individual instruction. Classes in which the children participate include Physical Education, Music, Spanish, Library, Art and Computer along with the usual classroom activities.
Student progress is evaluated in a variety of ways. Teachers use regular observation during group and individual activities as well as individual work portfolios and skills checklists. Progress is reported to parents in conferences three times during the school year (fall, winter, spring). Teachers are also available for parent conferences at any other time during the year if an individual need arises. There is regular communication between teachers and parents occurs via class notes, weekly newsletters, or e-mail.
The Early Childhood program at The Anthony School provides a happy environment where children have fun and enjoy their learning experience. Emphasis is placed not only on academic development, but also on physical, social, and emotional development.
