The Anthony School's third through sixth grade students are eligible
to participate in the Private School Basketball League. The league is
comprised of six private schools, 75 teams, in the Little Rock area. Approximately
80-90 boys and girls participate in this league each year.
Coaches of the teams volunteer their time and expertise. Practices are
coordinated and scheduled by the athletic director. Teams sometimes share
gym time in order to provide more practices. Teams practice at least one
time per week beginning mid-October. Typically, the season begins after
Thanksgiving and ends by March 1.
First and second graders have an opportunity to participate in an intramural-type
program for one month after the middle school session is complete. Practices
and games are held immediately after school under the direction of the
girls' and boys' basketball coaches.
The Anthony Middle School is an active member of the Arkansas Activities
Association. Middle School basketball practices begin in October, and
the season is complete with an annual tournament held at the Anthony School.
The Middle School competes against both private and public schools. A
typical season consists of 12-14 regular season games plus two invitational
tournaments. Practices are typically after school and are directed by
the head coaches of their respected sport.
The program emphasizes fundamentals for a solid foundation to facilitate
a smooth transition into high school basketball.
