The Anthony Middle School maintains high academic standards and stresses
cooperation among the administration, teachers, students, parents, and
community. We encourage parents to observe our classrooms as frequently
as possible. We communicate with parents often through individual conferences,
notes, telephone conversations, newsletters, and e-mail. Our web pages
are updated daily with assignments which are also posted on the class
assignment boards in the classrooms.
The curriculum is developmentally appropriate for all Middle School students.
Language Arts classes are divided into the following separate daily classes:
Literature, Grammar, and Vocabulary/ Composition. Science, History, and
Math are taught once daily at each grade level. Physical Education is
a full-year requirement for all students. Tutoring by classroom teachers
is available during teacher planning periods, and before or after school.
Teachers present material orally, visually, and kinesthetically as often
as possible. Attention is given to learning differences, and accommodations
for advanced learners and those who require more explanation of concepts
are made according to student needs. We have high expectations within
the bounds of each student for his/her success.
Additional activities include a strong athletic program, student council,
student ambassador program, National Geography Bee, and the Scripps Howard
National Spelling Bee. Electives have been developed in visual arts, choral
music, drama, health, speech, Anthony School News, stock market, and Spanish.
The sixth grade participates in competitive sports through the Private
School Participation League. Grades seven and eight play competitive interscholastic
basketball, volleyball, and soccer through a membership in the Arkansas
Activities Association.
Teachers develop a close relationship with individual students. As evidence
of our high standards and degree of preparation, area high schools welcome
Anthony graduates. Several independent high schools routinely visit Anthony
School each spring to recruit our students.
