Learning Goals
ACADEMIC
DEVELOPMENT (by end of
year)
- Reads phonetically and is gaining fluency.
- Reads many words by sight.
- Reads long vowels and vowel and consonant
digraphs.
- Composes sentences and/or stories by spelling
phonetically.
- Identifies and writes numerals to 100.
- Counts orally to 100 and beyond.
- Counts orally by 5's to 100.
- Counts orally by 2's to 20.
- Can add and subtract on paper to 20.
- Can create visual patterns.
- Can create, read, and interpret picture and bar
graphs.
- Uses reasoning skills and is an independent learner.
SOCIAL DEVELOPMENT
- Does not invade ther personal space of others.
- Uses words to express feelings and can resolve conflict
before resorting to teacher intervention.
- Plays and works independently, as well as in
groups.
- Can problem solve independently, as well as in
groups.
- Willingly takes turns and cooperates with peers.
- Is accountable for the effects of words and actions upon
others.
EMOTIONAL DEVELOPMENT
- Is sensitive to the feelings and needs of others.
- Can give and receive instruction from peers.
- Can recognize and discuss feelings.
- Takes ownership of learning choices.
- Begins to understand the nature of competition.
- Is self-directed and can complete tasks without
prompting.
- Demonstrates a positive attitude and feels confident in
trying new things.
- Can listen and follow directions without prompting.
PHYSICAL DEVELOPMENT
- Ties shoes, fastens snaps, buttons, zippers, etc.
- Participates and enjoys P.E. classes.
- No longer needs to nap in the afternoon.
- Plays confidently on age-appropriate playground
equipment.
