Japan, at
the time, was led by a Premier known as Tojo. Tojo
was also commander of the military, and he fought
with Hitler. Japan slowly took over the islands
neighboring Japan. The U.S. became apprehensive.
General Douglas MacArthur led a small makeshift
army against the Japanese but was pushed back. The
U.S. also fought Japanese kamikazis (which were
basically suicide bombers). To be a kamikazi was a
great honor, hence its translation "divine wind."
The U.S. began pushing Japan back, but it would not
surrender. An invasion promised to be extremely
bloody. Finally, President Truman of thhe U.S. gave
his approval of the dropping of the Atomic bomb on
Hiroshima. The devastation was great; thousands
lost their lives, but Japan would not surrender.
Japan did surrender, however, when the U.S. dropped
a second A-bomb on Nagasaki.
