The Second Graders Are Excellent Keyboarders!!
The Second Graders are becoming excellent keyboarders. Their fingers are small, but they are FAST! Many of the children are consistently finishing drills with words per minute rates in the mid 20's; that is awesome! By the end of the year, I expect many of them to be approaching 40 wpm.
We meet twice a week (once for 40 minutes and once for 20 minutes). Forty minutes of our weekly class time is spent using MasterKey; the remainder is divided between "playing" Paratyper and document formatting exercises.
Learning to Format Microsoft Word Documents
Has your child asked you if they can open a Word document? If so, please say "yes!"
We are working on formatting Word documents. Students are learning to open a blank document, save the document using an appropriate name and an appropriate location, and to manipulate the format of the document. They are becoming very accomplished at changing font size, font style, font color, background color. We are making substantial progress in using the formatting palette to underline, italicize, make text bold, change margins, and center text.
Ask your child to show you!
Photobooth
What's the deal with Photobooth? It's fun! iMacs have iSight cameras built into the monitors. It is an experiment in fun when we play with the cameras and Photobooth. We are opening the pictures in KidPix now so that we can draw on them but will start to open them in Photoshop for manipulation later in the year.
Some of the photos are great; send in a flash drive and I'll send some home for you!
